Impact program FREE successfully completed
Our impact program FREE (Vrij) is a project initiated by Worldvisuals Film together with Ideefix Film & Media as the executive party.
The primary goal of the project was to teach essential life skills to vulnerable and at-risk youth in and out of detention.
It all started with the KRO-NCRV film Bruce, which premiered in 2019 at the International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam. In this film, ex-convict Bruce fights his demons, tries to break old patterns of behaviour, learn new ones and deals with obstacles that the system and society throw at him.
Bruce is one of 20,000 ex-convicts who struggles daily with the challenges during life after prison. The prison and the reintegration process teaches you hard skills that help you meet your basic conditions, such as a home and a job, but there is hardly any attention for life skills. However, these life skills are essential to promote self-reliance. This was the reason why we decided to organise an impact program around the film Bruce and help this group of people to acquire life skills. During this project we visited institutions, organisations and juvenile detention centres where we showed the film to young people and their supervisors, with an in-depth conversation and an in-depth workshop.
At the end of the workshops, the participants received a handbook to continue independently.
We are very happy we were able to make this project a success thanks to our partners and funders. Experience expert Mohamed Theeri and trainer Daniel Krikke visited 13 organisations and trained more than 885 people.
The project was financed by DJI, KF Heinfonds, the KNR-PIN Fund, Kansfonds and Fonds1818. You can read more about this project in our 2022 annual report.
